Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has revealed he is grateful to have been able to play alongside his idol Cristiano Ronaldo, despite his controversial departure.
The 37-year-old Portuguese icon spent a year and a half at Old Trafford but parted ways with the club acrimoniously after falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.
Now a free agent after mutually terminating his contract, Ronaldo will no longer have the chance to play alongside Rashford.
The 25-year-old idolized the former Real Madrid and Juventus player and was able to play with him on 39 occasions.
Rashford and Ronaldo even combined in two games, swapping assists for Arsenal and Omonia Nicosia.
But now their story is coming to an end, with the Englishman appreciating their time together.
He said: “It’s been an amazing experience playing with him, he’s one of my idols and someone I’ve always looked up to.
“To have the opportunity to play with him is amazing, I will take it with me, it’s something I can keep with me forever.
“We obviously want to thank him for all he has done for Manchester United and wish him all the best for the rest of his career.”
There is, of course, the potential that Rashford could meet Ronaldo at the World Cup in Qatar.
Next up for England, however, is a clash with neighbors Wales – live on talkSPORT, while Portugal take on Uruguay in their second game of the tournament.
