Waze is one of the best navigation apps available, which is why I recently switched from Google Maps to Waze. However, lately we have seen many reports that Waze is lagging and almost unusable on Android Auto and CarPlay.
Although it works great for me, others don’t have the same luck. In fact, there are so many reports of Waze lagging on the Google forum that it’s now a trending issue. Additionally, we’ve seen similar comments on the official Waze forum over the past month.
Users report that Waze starts getting slow, unresponsive, or lags on CarPlay and Android Auto. This happens whether the navigation is active or not and even seems to affect the CarPlay software. Basically, the Waze app starts to lag so much that none of the other on-screen controls work until the user completely closes Waze.
No workarounds or fixes have been discovered, and the latest app update doesn’t fix anything either. Owners can try uninstalling and reinstalling Waze, but if it’s a software issue, that won’t help either.
There is, however, good news. One of Google’s product experts on the official forum is aware of the issue and has sent an internal bug report to Waze developers. We hope this will be fixed soon, but the representative did not share a potential timeline.
