Let’s talk covers, shall we?

Wayne Coyne, frontman of The Flaming Lips, has revealed he’d love to hear Billie Eilish cover one of his band’s albums. Specifically, however, Coyne said “who wouldn’t want to hear…Billie Eilish cover ‘Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots’?” The Lips singer-songwriter made the announcement in an interview with The Guardian while answering questions from fans.

Coyne also talked about the possibility of The Flaming Lips doing more covers themselves. “We talked about doing Portishead’s debut album (Dummy) and a Silver Apples record,” he said.

On a very different note, Coyne also brought up robbery at gunpoint as a teenager in Oklahoma.

When a fan asked the frontman if his near-death experience influenced his avant-garde music, he replied, “I think it made me less afraid to do things in the name of art. I’m now thinking, ‘What harm is going to happen if I make a bad record?’ »

He went on to share how his experience of being robbed at gunpoint shaped his life. “Once you stand with a gun to your head and think, ‘Well, I’m going to die’, the little things don’t bother you anymore. It definitely shaped my fierceness – if that’s the right word. “, did he declare.

Coyne went on to discuss how growing up with flights around shaped his childhood. “I felt like these guys had robbed a few places, but all we saw was a brief police report. At 16, 17, I assumed everyone almost had to die two or three times growing up. It wasn’t until later in life that I realized it wasn’t normal.

You can see The Flaming Lips in action at the Big Climate Thing Festival from September 16-18. Discover the tickets for the festival HERE.
