American rapper Doja Cat (real name Amalaratna Zandile Dlamini) and Whoopi Goldberg recently went viral on social media after releasing a video clip in which they discuss Doja Cat’s distant father, actor Dumisani Dlamini.
It’s unclear exactly where the video was taken, but some suggest it was filmed while Goldberg and Doja Cat appeared in Seth Myer’s late night show last year.
Meeting with Whoopi Goldberg
It is said that when meeting Goldberg, Doja Cat said that she reminded him of his South African father, who also starred in the film. Sarafina alongside Goldberg.
“Who is he?” asked a clearly moved Goldberg, further commenting “a good man, he was a very good man” upon hearing that Dlamini was the man in question.
According to Citizen, Doja Cat, Goldberg and Dlamini trended on social networks since the download of the video, the South Africans calling on Dlamini to make an effort to meet his daughter. In fact, the video posted on Twitter totaled more than 70,000 views as of April 22, 2020.
Doja Cat breaks off relationship with father
In an interview in October of last year, Doja Cat revealed that she had not met her father.
“I have never [met him]and he’s on Instagram. And he comments on my photos sometimes, maybe more, but he did it a few months ago. He’s an incredible dancer and a great actor, but yes, I don’t know him very well.
As to whether she was open to meeting him, she said, “Sure, why not? He’s probably still busy doing stuff. “
According to IOL, the news that Dlamini was the father of Doja Cat did not surface until August of last year on social networks when he admitted having two daughters in America.
During an interview with TshisaLive, Dlamini said he fell in love during an American tour in the 1990s with an American Jewish woman named Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer. He said they share two girls, one of whom is the rapper.
“Beautiful girl (who goes by the name of Doja Cat, she sings with Nicki Minaj. If you see on Google, it’s DOJACA T, it’s one of the best singers in America. It’s my daughter” , he said at the time.
