Watch This Forgotten Mercedes SL Get Its First Wash In Two Decades

This Mercedes-Benz SL convertible has remained forgotten in warehouses for two decades. Thanks to the folks at WD Detailing, he finally has another chance at life.

The WD Detailing team was invited by the owner to collect this 450SL, allowing them to extract it from the hidden garage where it had spent decades untouched, collecting dust and mold. After moving the car to its cleaning center, the team discovers the extent of the encrusted grime.

Even after a first rinse, the paint of this V8-powered SL is still covered in a thick layer of coarse dirt. It takes careful exfoliation to remove everything. Even after the dirt is gone, the WD team finds many tar particles stuck to the hood. It’s clear that this car hasn’t received the attention it deserves.

Aside from another thick layer of dust, the interior appears to be in surprisingly good condition, considering the neglect. There are no large mold spots or rat nests. We bet the fact that the windows are rolled up throughout their storage life has a lot to do with their fairly sturdy condition.

Although the engine bay appears finished, the WD Detailing team is not attempting to start this SL. We think it’s for the best; these cars were equipped with Bosch’s K-Jetronic fuel injection system, which was notoriously difficult to repair and adjust.

We hope the owner of this SL will take it to a professional and get it back on the road. This is the only fate this car deserves.
