Watch the record-breaking Nürburgring race with the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is the fastest four-door production vehicle to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife loop. The lap time of 7 minutes and 7.55 seconds, set last year, nearly beat the Rimac Nevera as the fastest production electric vehicle on the famous track.

By the numbers, the most powerful production Porsche ever made is extremely fast. But numbers cannot tell everything. The on-board video, however, gives us a taste of what these performance numbers actually look like.

The video, released by Porsche on Wednesday, shows how the Taycan Turbo GT achieved this record time. In the hands of veteran driver Lars Kern, the new Porsche reached 270 km/h at the start of the lap. Kottenborn And Swedish Cross, one of the fastest sections of the long track. But the corners leading up to the sprint show that the Taycan is planted and – dare we say – nimble despite weighing nearly 5,000 pounds.

The next moment of interest comes shortly after, as Kern runs through the Turbo GT on another fast section of track. Fuchsrohre needs courage, after all. The car hits 160 mph thanks to that tricky descent and climb as it approaches the aforementioned corner. Kern makes it look easy, based on the video.

This is actually the case for all in-car video. After banking via the famous Nordschleife Karussell In a corner, Kern never drops below 60 mph in any of the following corners on the demanding back half of the course. Kern even takes both hands off the wheel at a relaxed 171 mph while coming down the main straight. We don’t know why, but when we grow up, we want to be so bold behind the wheel.

Technically, Porsche also won the EV series production record at the Nürburgring in addition to the four-door record, as the Rimac Nevera is an extremely limited-run hypercar, while the Turbo GT will be open to a wider customer base. Nonetheless, the Nevera is still a production EV with a Ring lap time of 7:05.2, which is 2.35 seconds faster than the Taycan Turbo GT. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Porsche make another attempt at some point in the future.
