The JoBros nostalgia was in full force during the band’s five-night Broadway residency, and one song in particular took fans by complete surprise. Nick Jonas had essentially pulled the 2009 track “Before the Storm,” a collaboration with ex-girlfriend Miley Cyrus, but he brought the love song back for a brief moment of nostalgia at his March 16 concert. As soon as Nick started singing “I Don’t Want To Lose Her” during the Jonas Brothers show on March 16 at the Marquis Theater in New York, fans knew it was a big moment. The last time Nick had performed the breakup ballad in 2013during the Jonas Brothers Jonas Brothers live visit. Even 10 years later, it was clear the song was emotional for him, and Nick only sang parts of its first verse before letting the audience finish it and handing the rest of the song to his brother Joe.

There’s a reason “Before the Storm” has finally resurfaced after a ten-year hiatus. The Jonas Brothers’ five-night residency featured a special gimmick, in which the band performed each of their albums in full each consecutive night. When March 16 rolled around, it was time for the brothers to race track by track through 2009. Lines, vines and test times. And that meant they couldn’t ignore “Before the Storm.”
Even though the JoBros rarely performed it live, “Before the Storm” remained a fan-favorite cut for years, largely due to Nick and Cyrus’ relationship. The two singers met during their Disney Channel days in the mid-2000s, but had a messy breakup that was rumored to have inspired Cyrus’ 2008 diss track “7 Things.” The breakup also clearly inspired “Before the Storm.”
Of course, Jonas and Cyrus have moved on to their own happy endings since then. Jonas is married to Priyanka Chopra and became the father of their baby girl Malti. Meanwhile, Cyrus buys herself flowers and keeps her love life more low-key with boyfriend Maxx Morando.
