The A’s, Amelia Meath and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig, backed the Mumford & Sons frontman on “Cowboy Like Me” at the Fillmore Detroit.

Marcus Mumford hired the opening act for The A’s to contribute a version of Taylor Swift’s “Cowboy Like Me” last night in Detroit. The duo of Amelia Meath (Sylvan Esso) and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig (Daughter Of Swords) provided harmony vocals for the Mumford & Sons frontman on the cover of T-Swift and New York’s song “Kansas City.” Basement Tapes towards the end of his show at The Fillmore Detroit.
Taylor Swift released “Cowboy Like Me” on her 2020 LP Still. Swift recorded the track at Marcus Mumford’s Scarlet Pimpernel Studios facility in the UK. Mumford contributed backing vocals to the original version.
Last night marked the final leg of Marcus Mumford’s North American tour in support of his recently released debut solo album, (eponym). Mumford debuted his rendition of “Cowboy Like Me” earlier this month at Magnolia in El Cajon, Calif. Previous versions were played solo. On Tuesday, he turned to The A’s for vocal contributions.

Marcus Mumford went solo to kick off the night with performances of Mumford & Sons classics “Awake My Soul” and “The Cave.” He then released his solo band as he performed (eponym) back and forth. A disconnected one-man “I Will Wait” followed before The A’s came out for “Cowboy Like Me”. The band returned to support Mumford on Bob Dylan’s “Not Dark Yet” and The New Basement Tapes’ “When I Get My Hands On You”. Meath and Sauser-Monning reappeared for the “Kansas City” finale. The New Basement Tapes were a supergroup consisting of Marcus Mumford, Jim James, Elvis Costello, Taylor Goldsmith and Rhiannon Giddens who came together in 2014 to record songs based on lyrics written by Dylan in 1967.
The Brown Theater in Louisville hosts Marcus Mumford and The A’s tonight.
