The trailer for The Walking Dead season 11 has dropped and the appearance of Daryl’s dog got fans talking, writes Duncan Lay.
It’s probably not every day that superstar Leonardo DiCaprio calls you and asks for your opinion on the best way to explode cocaine in a prostitute’s butt.
Ethan Suplee, who is perhaps best remembered as Randy in My Name is Earl, revealed this week that his minor role in Wolf Of Wall Street was promoted to advisor for one of DiCaprio’s many scenes involving drugs and sex.
Suplee took to the Inside of You podcast to talk about overcoming addiction and changing her life. He also recounted how the film crew got confused when the script asked DiCaprio’s character (Jordan Belfort) to blow up a prostitute’s bottom – but didn’t describe how it should be done.
“I had been sober at this point for almost 10 years, but some people knew me before and were like, ‘He knows how to do this, catch him,'” says Suplee.
For the record, apparently you have to use a straw. It was seemingly unnecessary information that made Suplee a minor but vital part of the 2013 film. I mean, if they’d been wrong about this technique, the critics would have rightly torn the movie apart.
It would have become a laughing stock and possibly ruined DiCaprio’s career. And the extra end would never have worked again.
But, to be serious for a moment, I was pondering the value of seemingly unnecessary knowledge this week when The Walking Dead season 11 trailer dropped.
As fans of the series know, this is the final season and will debut August 23 in Australia.
Being of course the end of this cult zombie show, it has been extended to 24 episodes instead of the usual 16 and will not end until 2022.
Part of this is due to the pandemic, which allowed us to get a six-episode “bonus” of Season 10 earlier this year instead of the start of Season 11.
Some have called these episodes “character,” a beautiful way of putting it about as exciting as watching zombie blood dry.
They can be summed up like this: Daryl is angry with Carol, Princess is a little crazy, Father Gabriel questions God and – shock! – Maggie hasn’t forgiven Negan for killing her husband.
Either way, the trailer didn’t feature ass or cocaine, but featured an image that suddenly made knowing these six episodes just as important (though maybe not as rare) as checking you have a lot. straw if DiCaprio comes to dinner.
It shows Daryl’s dog (called Dog) standing happily with a member of the new villainous group The Reavers.
So either the big twist is that Dog is a traitor (a brave but unlikely choice) or it marks Leah’s return.
Who do I hear you say? In a bonus episode, she was introduced as the original owner of Dog and Daryl’s surprise love before his disappearance.
I say surprise love interest because he had gone 10 seasons with nothing more than a few stolen looks from Connie (Lauren Ridloff) that were going nowhere.
Now it looks like she’s back and their unhappy love will be a big thing in Season 11.
I loved the trailer and can’t wait for season 11, but wait until now to turn Daryl into a romantic role? Looks like they’re trying to blow cocaine on us.
