COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – The Air Force took home the Mountain West’s weekly men’s basketball awards, announced today by the conference office. Senior guard AJ Walker won player of the week and MW guard Ethan taylor won MW Freshman of the Week for matches played the week of November 22-28.
Walker guided the Air Force to a pair of wins last week, averaging 23 points per game. Walker shot 75 percent from the field (18 of 24) and 87.5% from a three-point range (7 of 8). The San Antonio, Texas native tied a season high with 27 points in the Air Force victory over Denver. He was 10 of 14 on the field and 4 of 5 on three points. He then scored 19 points on 8 of 10 shots in the win over Idaho State. He went 3-for-3 with three runs against Idaho State.
Walker is the Air Force’s first player of the week since CJ Siples won the honor in 2016.
Taylor took home the MW Freshman honors for the second week in a row. The goalie averaged 7.5 points per game, 8.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals over the two games. He recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds against Denver. Taylor led the Air Force with six rebounds, six assists and three steals in the victory over Idaho State.
