The VW Arteon wagon has been tested in Europe to show its elegant design. The Arteon is quite a sedan look, mixing an aggressive front end with the sloping rear end of a four-door coupe, but the upcoming wagon somehow enhances the already striking design of the Arteon.
The luxury sedan based on the VW Audi A5 combines elegant lines with a well-appointed interior as VW’s flagship luxury offering. The Arteon is powered by the ubiquitous 2.0-liter TSI inline 4-cylinder turbo engine that produces 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque in this particular version
For the American market, the large TSI engine is coupled to the 8-speed automatic transmission of the VW torque converter instead of the VW double clutch offered in more sporty vehicles. In Europe, customers can choose a diesel option or a detuned 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. All European Arteons use a 7-speed dual clutch instead of the 8-speed auto found in the American Arteons.
Rumors surround a possible improvement in the performance of the Arteon. According to VW insiders, a 400-horsepower Arteon R is on its way. Instead of an ordinary 4 liter turbocharged 4 liter, the Arteon R would use a new version of the legendary VR6 engine from VW. This high performance Arteon rumor is pretty exciting but nothing beats the news of a new luxury wagon.
It is not the first time that we have seen photos of the Arteon wagon. The Arteon wagon was spied on in cold weather tests in Sweden. During this particular test, VW tried to disguise the Arteon as a Passat, but our eagle-eyed team was not fooled. Now the Arteon wagon has surfaced by driving on the streets of Europe, very close to production. We expect the Arteon to debut as a 2021 model and hope it will appear on the American coast.
