Vincent Kompany moves closer to Bayern Munich move despite Mauricio Pochettino availability

Mauricio Pochettino has also emerged as a possible candidate following his shock exit from Chelsea after just one season in charge.

But Kompany, who is keen on this position at Bayern, remains the favorite despite the sudden availability of Pochettino.

The Manchester City legend guided Burnley to the Premier League, however, the Clarets were bounced straight back this season as they finished 19th in the table with just 24 points.

A move to Bayern would be a huge step forward for Kompany, who has been in charge of Turf Moor for two years. Before that, he managed Belgian club Anderlecht.

Bayern have had a torrid season without winning the Bundesliga for the first time in 12 years.

And despite signing England captain Harry Kane in a high-profile move last summer, Bayern finished the campaign without a trophy – something that hasn’t happened since the 2011/12 season.

The German giants’ search for a new manager has been something of a goose chase after suffering numerous setbacks.

They were interested in recruiting Xabi Alonso, who orchestrated Bayer Leverkusen’s incredible Bundesliga title campaign, which also saw Germany’s inaugural champions go unbeaten all season, but the Spaniard decided to stay .

Bayern have also shown interest in Oliver Glasner, who has made a big impact since taking the job at Crystal Palace in February.

But as with their pursuit of Alonso, that move did not come to fruition as Glasner and Palace are not looking to part ways.

It was later reported that Bayern had attempted to lure Tuchel back to the club despite announcing earlier in the season that he was leaving this summer.

The former Chelsea boss would like to return to the Premier League after 14 months in charge of Bavaria.

He has been linked with the Manchester United job amid uncertainty over Erik ten Hag’s future at the club.

talkSPORT understands he is not in contention for the recently vacant Chelsea job.

If Tuchel leaves Bayern, he will enter his next job having failed to win a trophy at one of the biggest clubs in the world that has become accustomed to winning silverware.

The six-time European champions finished third in the Bundesliga, 17 points behind champions Bayer Leverkusen and were eliminated in the DFB-Pokal by Saarbrücken, a team playing in the third tier of German football.

Bayern looked set to book their place in the Champions League final, albeit with two late goals from Real Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final.

Tuchel’s decision to replace Kane in the 85th minute, with Bayern leading 1-0 at the Bernabeu, before Real Madrid scored in the 88th and 89th minutes, was widely criticized.
