It was a far from eventful affair at the Lusail Stadium as Group G drew to a close.

However, all drama was spared for stoppage time as Cameroon scored a late goal to claim their only win at this year’s World Cup.

Aboubakar scored to give his side a famous World Cup victory, but his celebrations were cut short as the referee sent him off for a second yellow card.

He is the first player to score and be sent off in a World Cup match after Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 final.

It was the Al Nassr striker’s second goal of the tournament but he won’t be able to add more to his tally as Cameroon were eventually eliminated.

Brazil had already secured their place in the round of 16 with earlier wins against fellow Group G opponents Serbia and Switzerland.

They still finished top of the standings, but will likely be disappointed not to have claimed a 100% record in the groups.

Aboubakar's goal was his 35th goal for Cameroon

In the other match, Serbia and Switzerland battled it out in a five-goal thriller, with the latter team winning 3-2.

They will now face Portugal in the round of 16 next week, with Brazil taking on South Korea.

Aboubakar may not be too worried about the dismissal given his goal sealed a historic victory, and he is only the third African to score a World Cup goal against Brazil after Didier Drogba in 2010 and Joel Matip in 2014.

Cameroon will return from Qatar having finished third in the group, but they can hold their heads high after a dramatic victory against the five-time world champions.
