AKRON, Ohio, November 30, 2020 / PRNewswire / – It’s every new business’s dream to see a product video go viral and trigger a rampage of orders. But for OhioMeltdown, a premium ice baler maker, hasn’t happened once, it has happened twice and in just a few weeks.
Like any new brand launched in the year of the pandemic, 2020 has proven to be a challenge for Meltdown. But the owners of Meltdown, the Steere family, including Patriarch Bill, as well as sons Brock and Brian, were here for the long haul, and the rough start gave them time to continue product development.
It wasn’t until later in the summer that they turned their ad agency, Scales, the agency known for creating the YETI brand, loose to introduce Meltdown to the affluent drinker.
One initiative was to sponsor the Bourbon Pursuit podcast. A few weeks after this sponsorship, the partner of Bourbon Pursuit, Kenny coleman, decided to publish the now famous Tik-Tok video of a Meltdown making a scoop of ice cream. Within hours, the video was viewed by more than 5,000 people. By the next morning that number had skyrocketed to 3.1 million and the proverbial snowball was rolling down the hill.
The Steeres quickly went out of their way to keep up with manufacturing and order fulfillment, and by the time the dust settled, more than 10.3 million people had seen the video.
One group that has noticed is Gloss, a media company that curates the best in art, food, and culture. They showed “Food Porn,” an Australian foodie company that reposted the video on Facebook, and the second peak in sales had started. This post from early November was viewed by 29.7 million people. And that culminated in an Instagram post from celebrity Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. His post has been seen by 21.1 million people.
In total, on Thanksgiving, over 100 million people watched the viral video. As for the Steeres, they are busy trying to deliver Meltdowns and are thankful for the viral videos. They send special personalized Meltdowns to “Food Porn” and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
About Meltdown: A sphere is the optimal shape of ice in your drink. A scoop of ice has 24% less surface area compared to the same volume of ice cube-shaped. Less surface area exposed to hot liquid means slower ice melt and less beverage dilution without sacrificing cooling power. The coolest way to make ice cream scoops is to use a Meltdown ice cream scoop press.
Ice cream ball presses have become very popular. But if you’ve used one, you’re probably questioning their two-pin design. These pins can be difficult to align, and since ice does not melt evenly, this design can cause noise. The pins are also susceptible to damage.
Meltdown has no pins. The cover descends into the grooves integrated into the base. This design makes alignment much easier and it is not prone to noise or accidental damage.
It takes about a minute to create a perfect ice sphere in Meltdown. But it’s worth the wait as your guests can watch the meltwater cascading down the sides of Meltdown as the ice melts. It’s fascinating and makes a great conversation piece.
There are three Meltdown models. All Meltdown Ice Cream Ball Presses are proudly made in America. Meltdown can be engraved with your initials.
