PARIS — Victor Wembanyama will aim for the gold medal with France at the Paris Olympic Games.
The San Antonio Spurs rookie reaffirmed his commitment to the French national team at next year’s Summer Games in his home country on Tuesday.
“Performing well at the Olympics would be a great story,” Wembanyama told French media. “I will be at the Olympics and there is no other goal than gold.”
France entered the FIBA World Cup as the reigning Olympic silver medalists, but failed to advance to the second round. Wembanyama did not participate in this event, as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft instead opted to prepare for his rookie season.
“The World Cup was very disappointing,” Wembanyama said. “But I have no judgment to make since I wasn’t there.”
