Taken over by WinCentral in the eyes of eagle, Microsoft’s long-awaited patch for Windows 10 File Explorer problems (KB4532695) now itself causes a wide range of new problems, including audio breakdowns, performance slow, game incompatibilities, driver issues and a blue screen of death (BSOD) crashes.

“This installed and now I have no sound. I have two different sources. HDMI cable and sound card. None work now … I haven’t changed anything, just updated Windows and now no sound !! **** MICROSOFT !!! REPAIR YOUR ****! ” – source

“I also lost my TPM driver and now bitlocker is not working and I am constantly receiving BSOD (memory management). But I expect nothing better from MS. ” – source

“I AGREE !! Update installed and Sound has become bonkers. Several devices installed by update in Bluetooth. In addition, my PDF software stopped working from MS Office 365. The creation of the menu has been interrupted. I’m sick and tired of MS clogging up my computer with updates. “- source

“This update was so complicated for me, I had to do a clean installation of Windows … I have been on the phone with Microsoft technical support for hours now (they have been VERY helpful!)”. It basically boiled down to a problem with the drivers, and all of the error codes I received from the BSOD were all related to the driver (so the technician told me). Instead of trying to update a driver, it took less time and hassle to do a clean reinstallation of Windows, but still a hassle. ” – source

“Installed this in an Intel NUC8i3BEH and encountered very slow boot times. Windows would stay stuck on the Home or Home screen for about 5 minutes. I uninstalled this update and reinstalled twice, with the same results. ” – source

“As soon as I got the last update, I continue these boot cycles … Just endless, telling myself that an error was found … Then when Windows starts, it ends up crashing. I reinstalled Windows from an ISO image, same problems. I restored from a backup from three weeks ago, the same problems. I realize that this new update is a big problem. “- source

Others report that it breaks popular Battle Eye anti-cheat software for some titles, and Windows Latest has found that, for some, it also fails in its main task: solving file explorer problems.

The good news at this point is that KB4532695 remains an optional update, but enthusiastic update maintainers should be careful because on the official patch support page, Microsoft still states that “it is currently aware of no problems with this update. ” It’s familiar territory with Microsoft that often uses this statement long after problems have been reported (1,2,3,4,5) and that means Windows 10 users continue to get the green light for updates which may prove to be harmful.

02/02 Update: Problem reports with KB4532695 continue to to build. “Yes, I get the BSOD after installing the update, I got a different code each time … I got the BSOD about 15 times since the last update,” Remarks an user.

Windows Latest also reports new complaints: “My desktop was just updated in 1909 and tried to restart. It locked up and won’t boot. In fact, it doesn’t respond at all to the power button. can’t access BIOS or do anything at all. This update has been a problem on all of my computers, usually slowing down the computer or locking the screen. This is the first time I haven’t can’t seem to uninstall the update to resume using the computer. ”

As such, be careful with this update as Microsoft continues to State he “currently has no knowledge of any problems with this update”.

Update 06/02: Microsoft still hasn’t recognized a problem with KB4532695 on the official patch support page.

To its credit, Microsoft has long admitted to shortcomings in its Windows 10 testing process, changes are underway (a whistleblower is a good motivator), but there is still a lot to do.
