USC Basketball: Bronny James Makes Early Draft Decision – Sports Illustrated

Bronny James, now a former USC Trojans freshman combo guard, appears to be getting closer to realizing his professional hoops dreams.

On Tuesday, Field Level Media/ESPN reported that James was among 195 NBA prospects who filed paperwork naming themselves as early entry contenders for this summer’s impending draft.

James, along with All-Americans like Purdue’s Zach Edey, Illinois’ Terrence Shannon Jr., Duke’s Kyle Filipowski and Houston’s Jamal Shead, will have until 2 p.m. PT on June 16 to opt out. of the draft, but if they want to return to college (like James could), their deadline is May 29.

The 2024 NBA Draft begins June 26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. For the first time, the second round will be broadcast a day later, similar to the NFL draft model. The second round will also move to ESPN’s Seaport District studios.

James, the eldest son of LeBron James, a 20-time All-Star forward for the Los Angeles Lakers, is not generally considered an elite prospect yet. He had a disappointing inaugural (and final?) season in the NCAA, averaging just 4.8 points on a .366/.267/.676 slash line, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 0.8 interceptions in 25 games (six starts).
