In a bid to tighten restrictions on Chinese tech giant Huawei, the United States has revoked some licenses for chip exports, the Commerce Department confirmed Tuesday. The move underscores ongoing efforts to limit China’s technological influence on the global stage.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce stressed the continued evaluation of controls to safeguard national security and foreign policy interests. “We continually evaluate how our controls can best protect our national security and foreign policy interests, taking into account an ever-changing threat environment and technology landscape,” the spokesperson said.
It is unclear which licenses were revoked
The spokesperson declined to comment on the specific licenses revoked, but confirmed the action, saying: “But we can confirm that we have revoked some export licenses to Huawei.” The move is a continuation of the US government’s actions against Huawei, which began with its commercial blacklisting in 2019 for national security reasons.
