Android tablets connected to LTE are often expensive and not always worth the money, but Verizon and TCL are hoping to change that with the $ 199 TAB.
[Update 10/27]: TCL has expanded the TAB series with the new TAB Family Edition which offers exactly the same basic internals as the standard TAB, but comes with a free protective case and has access to free downloadable content.
For those looking for this family-friendly tablet, you’ll get one year of free access to Sago Mini World, which offers young children fun, safe and friendly games and interactive content. There is also 3 months of free Verizon Smart Family Basic included with TAB Family Edition.
The bumper case is particularly funky, with plenty of protection for those with young children, and it adds a kickstand for even easier propping on a flat surface. There is also a loop to connect to a lanyard or carabiner. The TCL TAB Family Edition is priced at $ 199 and is available exclusively from Verizon.
The TCL TAB is an 8-inch Android tablet that is exclusive to the Verizon network but certainly has some hints of the Google Nexus 7. Now, while Android tablets are nowhere near as popular as their Apple-branded counterparts, some people do that prefer the underlying operating system over a secondary media device.
It might not be a replacement for the iPad, but the TCL TAB could be a solid, affordable LTE-enabled Android tablet that will do the “basics”. Let’s take a look at some specs first. The TCL TAB comes with an 8 inch FHD + LCD display and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset, 32 GB of on-board storage, 3 GB of RAM and a 5500 mAh battery. It’s a modest spec sheet for sure.
Now there’s a little trick up the sleeve of this tablet here, as the TCL TAB can actually charge your device through the USB-C port – which is a really cool addition. We can see that this is useful if you are just packing this device in your bag and want to grab a little juice bump for some other tech like headphones or maybe your primary smartphone.
The only downside to this feature is that it relies on a separate USB-C OTG add-on that you’ll have to fork over. Other TCL TAB notables include an 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, support for Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm headphone port, fingerprint reader. foxgloves, plus it weighs less than 330 grams or 11.5 oz.
It will ship with Android 10, but is only promised on the major OS upgrade. Although at $ 200, it’s harder to really complain that the TCL TAB won’t update to Android 12. However, it will receive security updates for two years.
You can pick it up directly from Verizon for $ 199 or $ 8.33 per month over a 24 month period.
