COLUMBUS – The University of Dayton and the Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Monday that the OHSAA girls and boys basketball tournaments will be held at UD Arena for the next three years. Doug Ute, executive director of OHSAA, and Scott DeBolt, associate senior director of athletics at the University of Dayton and executive director of UD Arena, made the announcement on Monday.
UD Arena had previously been announced as the seat of the OHSAA women’s basketball tournament for 2021, 2022 and 2023, but the new agreement for the girls and boys basketball tournaments in 2022, 2023 and 2024 replaces that previous contract. UD Arena successfully hosted the OHSAA girls and boys basketball tournaments last March.
“We are very happy that our student-athletes are able to play at the UD Arena,” Ute said. “Even with the pandemic limiting anything that could take place at state tournaments last March, our schools still had a lot of experience at UD Arena, and UD made it clear that they wanted to host state tournaments. girls and boys in the future. We know the support for basketball in Southwest Ohio is very strong and UD wants to be the home of state tournaments. “
Hosting 125 games of the NCAA basketball tournament, UD Arena has been the playground of March Madness more than any other facility in the country.

Renovated in 2019, the UD Arena has a capacity of 13,000 seats and has hosted numerous district games and regional OHSAA basketball tournaments, as well as Atlantic Conference 10 games and NCAA tournaments. During the regular season, it is the home of the University of Dayton Flyers’ women’s and men’s basketball teams.
UD Arena recently completed a transformational project that was the largest building effort in the history of the University. It is considered one of the best basketball facilities in the country to accompany the fan support which consistently ranks among the best in college basketball.
Prior to her move to UD Arena in March, the OHSAA Women’s Basketball Tournament had been hosted annually by Ohio State University since its first state tournament in 1976, except in 1986 when it was held. was organized by Akron University. The OHSAA Boys’ Basketball Tournament has been hosted by OSU every year since 1957, with the exception of 1986 and 1987 when it was hosted at UD Arena. The 2021 OHSAA Boys Basketball Tournament was scheduled to be held at OSU’s St. John Arena, but the facility was not available due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The OHSAA did not have a contract in place with OSU for the boys’ basketball tournament beyond the 2021 deal which was canceled.
