The United States has seized four tankers carrying Iranian oil to Venezuela in violation of sanctions, the Justice Department said.
The four tankers were carrying 1.116 million barrels of oil, which is now in US custody after help from “foreign partners,” according to a department statement Friday.
“These actions represent the largest seizure of fuel shipments from Iran by the government ever,” the statement said, indicating that the shipment was carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The four ships were M / T Bella, M / T Bering, M / T Pandi and M / T Luna. The Wall Street Journal reported that the ships are headed for Houston in the coming days.
