Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has described his side’s performance in their friendly against Cadiz as “unacceptable”.
The United boss gave his stars who didn’t feature at the Qatar World Cup the chance to prepare for the game ahead of the Premier League’s return.
Anthony Martial, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Alejandro Garnacho, Donny van de Beek, Martin Dubravka, Victor Lindelof and Scott McTominay all featured in the 4-2 loss.
Ten Hag’s men went down 2-0 on 13 minutes, when Carlos Garcia-Die Sanchez and Anthony Lozano both found the net.
Martial reduced the backlog from the penalty spot, before Kobbie Mainoo leveled the score just after half-time.
However, Cadiz scored twice in the second half to secure the comfortable victory in the end.
Ten Hag was unhappy with his side’s performance, especially in the first half, despite some of his youngsters performing within 45 seconds.
“It’s pretty clear we weren’t awake and still sleeping in the first 15 minutes,” Ten Hag told MUTV after the friendly.
“We prepared them. [We knew] They are a threat in transition and we saw the second goal. It can’t happen.
“You are not awake. Especially in midfield, we got fired, it’s not possible. Unacceptable.
“The first goal was too. One set piece, poor organization and poor organizational discipline, and you concede a goal.
“After that, we entered the game. We get a penalty, a clear round, and we deserve another one in the second half.
“We came into the game but failed to equalize before half-time.”
United are back in the Premier League when they host Nottingham Forest on December 27 at Old Trafford.
