WASHINGTON – The Trump administration is moving forward with the removal of one of the country’s oldest environmental protections, the Migratory Birds Treaty Act.
Here is the reaction of Katie Umekubo, senior lawyer at the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):
“Under the guise of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Trump administration is rushing to finalize another giveaway to the oil and gas industry by rescinding key provisions of the Migratory Birds Treaty Act. In blatant disregard for its recent loss in court and more than 200,000 public comments, the Trump administration is taking another push toward fundamental environmental laws that protect Americans and our environment.
“Holding bad industrial players accountable for poor practices and bird killings doesn’t just protect birds. It also protects athletes, neighboring communities and other wildlife from unnecessary damage. “
