As Weeknd’s new album, Dawn FM … Rises, just like the fan theories. Abel Tesfaye never hesitated to tap into his personal life in his music – remember My dear melancholy and all her Selena Gomez references? Yet one song in particular on Dawn FM surprised fans with his lyrics: “I Heard You’re Married”. Sounds like a shot at “Save Your Tears” by Weeknd and his “off the table” collaborator Ariana Grande? The same Ariana Grande that fans often theorize about with the Weeknd and who indeed got married last year as the Weeknd prepared for the follow-up to her 2020 smash, After hours. So did Weeknd and Ari bond – and has he spared his tears about the split for his new album? And to top it off, how does Angelina Jolie fit into this mess ?! Let’s break it down.

Nothing good, that’s for sure! The Weeknd records some of his biggest hits for one of the latest songs from Dawn FM, on which he sings an “adventure” with a woman already taken. “It hurts to think that I share you,” he sings in the first verse. He later continues to state it more clearly: “Why are you even with him if you are cheating?” He asks his partner. As the song continued, he decided to quit the affair, telling the girl in question, “I can’t be with you / You are too cheating, girl.” Sorry for this woman!

The Weeknd doesn’t make the topic of “I Heard You’re Married” too explicit, but it’s certainly possible to read between the lines. First, we know the Weeknd’s two most prominent exes (not to mention some of his favorite lyrical subjects), Bella Hadid and Selena Gomez, aren’t married. This opens the door to some speculation as to other women that Weeknd may have been involved with… including Grande. After collaborating on the sultry 2014 duo “Love Me Harder”, the two reconnected in 2020 for “off the table”, another duet for Grande’s album. posts, widely regarded as a proclamation of love to his new boo, Dalton Gomez. About six months later, in April 2021, Grande hopped on a remix of The Weeknd’s. After hours single “Save your tears”. At this point, she was engaged to Gomez, just weeks away from her eventual intimate marriage, and, theoretically, could have been intimate with the Weeknd as well. (And how did he to listen was she married? Good, he liked The Insta post, to begin with.) The two continued to perform “Save Your Tears” at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in late May and released a Vevo live performance of “off the table” in July, both apparently after Grande’s wedding.

You don’t buy it? Let’s look at the text. Genius detectives say the first line “You manifested this, but girl, I blame myself” could be a reference to Grande. posts song “just like magic”, which also affects the manifestation (in his case, “good karma”). Some stans also say that the line “too good to be true” in the chorus could be taken from an Ari’s favorite saying, which appears on songs as “positions” (“You are just too good to be true “) and” someone like you “(” Baby this time, please don’t look too good to be true “), both are also off posts. Perhaps the most compelling evidence, or at least the most striking coincidence: The Weeknd’s song stars Lil Wayne, who once worked with Grande on “Let Me Love You,” an ode to the lover single. 2016 album, Dangerous woman. Could this song have been on the Weeknd? The jury remains absent.

Here’s where things get more blurry. Some fans clung to others Dawn FM lyrics as references to Grande, but not all. On the album’s first real song, “Gasoline”, for example, The Weeknd sings “I doze off with REM / I’m trying not to lose my faith”. And sure enough, Grande has a song and a beauty line called “rem”. uses on Dawn FM. Sometimes it’s just not that deep.

Elsewhere, on the song “Here We Go … Again”, the Weeknd addresses an ex who is with a new, less famous man. “Your girlfriend is trying to match you up with someone more famous / But instead you ended up with someone so basic, faceless,” he sings. Now, that could also be Weeknd’s confirmed ex Bella Hadid, who is currently dating. a guy that few people know by face or name, artistic director Marc Kalman. But let’s go back a few lines before, where the Weeknd sings about life in a big way after his Super Bowl performance. “You said you wanted your boyfriend to be jealous with some pictures,” he sings seriously. “And you didn’t expect to fall in love with me once you got that cock.” At the time, Grande was reportedly engaged to Gomez – an unsung real estate agent – and worked on the “Save Your Tears” remix with The Weeknd. Could it have been part of a stunt Grande pulled at Gomez that escalated? If so, The Weeknd keeps singing on “Here We Go… Again” he doesn’t care. “My new daughter, she’s a movie star,” he sings in the same verse, throwing out apparent confirmation of his supposed relationship with Angelina Jolie. The real lede buried here!

Oh, and one more movie star note: The Weeknd’s album, formatted like a radio show, is narrated by none other than Jim Carrey as a DJ. If the Weeknd sings about a split with Grande, that detail could be salt in the hurt given his own well-documented friendship with the comedian.

Nothing yet. The pop star did not congratulate his (former?) Friend on the release of his new album on Instagram. But contrary to some reports, she hasn’t given up on him on Instagram either. Remember that she no longer honors us with her presence on Twitter. Ms. Grande seems to be content to be living her quiet married life at this time.
