March 5 (Reuters) – British FTSE 100 .FTSE The index should drop by 4 points Thursday, according to financial bookmakers, futures being up 0.53% before the opening of the cash markets.
* RIO TINTO: Investors in Rio Tinto Ltd RIO.AX have renewed their efforts to force the world’s largest iron ore operator to commit to targets that would reduce emissions for its customers in accordance with the Paris Agreement to combat climate change.
* FLYBE: The British regional airline Flybe said on Thursday that it had started operating, the already struggling carrier could not resist the drop in travel demand caused by the coronavirus epidemic.
* TESCO: Britain’s largest supermarket group, Tesco TSCO.L, will begin to match prices with Aldi on hundreds of daily articles, firing the latest salvo in its fight to stem the market share gains of its rival.
* INVESTMENT ASSOCIATION: The UK investment industry trade organization has warned companies before their 2020 annual general meetings that they need to disclose more about how they manage the risk of climate change.
* GOLD: Gold rose slightly on safe haven purchases on Thursday fueled by concerns about the rapidly spreading coronavirus, but a rise in the stock markets limited the gains in bullion.
* OIL: Oil prices rose more than 1% Thursday before an OPEC meeting in which Saudi Arabia is expected to push the group and its allies, including Russia, to accept further production cuts for support the market.
* EX-DIVS: BHP Group BHPB.L, Evraz EVRE.L, Khaki PSN.L, Rio Tinto RIO.L, RSA Insurance Group SA.L, Standard Chartered STAN.L will trade without entitlement to its last dividend payment Thursday, reducing the FTSE 100 by 16.5 points .FTSE, according to Reuters calculations.
* The leading index of the United Kingdom .FTSE closed up 1.5% on Wednesday as investors bet on possible rate cuts in Europe after the US Federal Reserve’s emergency decision to protect the US economy from the impact of the coronavirus on Tuesday.
