Former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor is proud of one particular blow he landed on Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2019.
‘Notorious’ was no match for his biggest rival when they met at UFC 229 and was outplayed on the court before falling to a fourth-round submission loss.
In the second round, McGregor was shocked by ‘The Eagle’ who found himself in first position and appeared close to finishing the Irishman.
However, despite being on his back, ‘Mystic Mac’ threw and landed a vicious knee in his opponent’s face – which is illegal – and proudly watched the shot during his latest social media rant.
“I call this knee strike ‘the springbok’. Remember Reebok? Yeah it’s springbok,” McGregor tweeted.
“Have you ever seen a Springbok jump? Well check out this knee springbok in this eye sock hahahaja I’m the goat of invisible kicks. It is without a doubt. God bless the dead.”
The 34-year-old then added a photo of the medium-sized antelope, with the caption: “It’s a springbok, I’m just after making them. Springboks are made now you.
While McGregor was impressed with the initiative shot he landed at UFC 229, Rogan was not and made it clear when commenting on the fight.
“It was an illegal knee to the ground from Conor – a knee to the head of a downed opponent,” he said.
Three years later, it seems the UFC legend is still angry at Rogan’s comments about his ‘Springbok knee’ as he called him a ‘little fool’ before imitating and mocking him in a since-deleted voice note.
“‘It was an illegal knee to the head of an opponent on the ground.’ “Shut up, Joe, you little fool,” McGregor said.
“What the hell are you talking about ‘crush this and squash that’? I was crushing my knee in his fucking socket, yeah?”
“He then mocked Rogan by again mimicking his comment: ‘That’s a knee to an opponent on the ground, call the cops.’ “”
The biggest star in MMA history is currently preparing for his highly anticipated return to the UFC after being sidelined through injury since July 2021.
He says he will perform two tests with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in February and look to book a fight.
