UFC legend Conor McGregor was in high spirits as he took to social media on Thursday after it was revealed he was set to make his acting debut.
“Notorious” will star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Amazon Prime’s new reimagining of 1980s classic Road House, set to begin filming in the Dominican Republic later this month.
Gyllenhaal will star as a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys truck stop, but soon discovers that all is not as it seems.
Although it is currently unknown who McGregor will be playing in his acting debut, it has been confirmed that he will be an original character and that the charismatic Irishman will not be playing himself.
The clearly elated 34-year-old took to Twitter to reflect on how far he’s come after booking his first film role and poke fun at one of his biggest rivals he ‘mistook’ for legend UFC heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga.
“Back to Me vs. Gabriel Gonzaga in Japan, I can’t believe I’m about to hit Hollywood. I’ll make you all proud,” McGregor wrote alongside a photo of him punching Diaz in the face.
McGregor then confirmed ‘I’ll be back’ as he turned his attention to Hollywood legend Arnold Schwarzenegger who he hopes has fulfilled his time in the acting world.
‘Mystic Mac’ bonded with the Terminator actor in 2013 when he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) against Max Holloway before seeking help from Schwarzenegger’s physiotherapist girlfriend, Heather Milligan, which is also helping him recover from the injury he suffered at UFC 264.
“I’ll be back! For the sake of mankind! I have to go back! Happy birthday my man, Arnold Schwarzenegger! Hope you and H are proud of my recovery/work and my final move on set. Fun times to come, bring them.
McGregor recently trained in “every facet of MMA” after suffering a broken tibia and fibula in July 2021. The MMA superstar is expected to return later this year or in the first quarter of 2023.
It is not yet clear how long he will be filming Road House or if it will delay his return to the Octagon.
