Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. are just a week away from making their boxing return.
The legendary duo will face off in an eight-round exhibition bout on November 28 where a combined age of 105 will be in the ring.
For fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the silky smooth Jones Jr of yesteryear, you just might.
For those fans who desperately want to see vintage Tysons knock people out? No chance. And it’s not because of Tyson – it’s the rules!
An exhibition boxing match like this decrees that it would be too dangerous to allow knockouts and instead, the fight has been called “heavy fight”.
Reporters asked UFC President Dana White what he thought of the new sequel to UFC 255 on Saturday and his reaction is priceless.
“There is no knockout? They don’t have the right to knock themselves out? How do you apply this? I bet that doesn’t happen. Can you bet on that ?! Oh shit! Can’t even bet on this fight ?! I did not know that. I don’t even know what to say to that.
Watch the video of her reaction to the post-show press conference below. His comments on the fight come in at around 16 minutes:
This fight captured the imaginations of many longtime boxing fans thanks to the legacy both men have in the sport. Jones Jr was a multi-weight champion and Tyson was an undisputed world champion at one point.
However, some of the luster is surely missing if we can’t even get a knockout. Half the fandom surrounding Tyson has to be associated with the devastating knockouts that have marked his legendary career.
Fans should probably temper their expectations of this fight anyway given the age of both men and the time they’ve been out of the ring now.
In Tyson’s case, it’s been 15 years. However, he has gotten into terrific shape and KO or not, everyone is curious to see what the two men look like.
