UEFA will hold talks with the British government on Monday about the possibility of changing the venue of the Champions League final from Istanbul to London.
The venue for the Premier League Champions League final, contested between Manchester City and Chelsea, has been questioned after Turkey was placed on the UK government’s travel ‘red list’.
The government announced that Turkey had been added to the list of high-risk countries during a briefing on Friday evening.
British citizens returning from countries on the coronavirus ‘red list’ are required to self-quarantine at a government-approved hotel for ten days.
This news would have had huge implications for fans wanting to travel to Istanbul and immediately talk about England hosting the final with Turkey in lockdown.
Sky Sports say Wembley Stadium is the most likely destination, however, Birmingham-based Villa Park was also mentioned. It is understood that an announcement will be made on Tuesday.
Manchester City and Chelsea booked their places in the final on May 29 after defeating Paris St Germain and Real Madrid respectively.
This is breaking news. Further updates will follow shortly.
