Tyson Fury could be ready for a huge £ 10m fight with Australian murderer Jai Opetaia at a world event in Sydney next year.
Gypsy King promoter Bob Arum has revealed plans to bring double world heavyweight champion Down Under to face the burgeoning Opetaia at Bankwest Stadium in mid-2021.
Opetaia, who is undefeated with a 19-0-0 record, is the rising star of Australian boxing, but is expected to win the world cruiserweight title and advance to the heavyweight class before the bout.
“It must be, from our point of view, a major and competitive event,” Arum told the Sunday Telegraph.
“I don’t know if he can beat Tyson, so tall and talented. But this kid is very, very clever.
“If it happens, it will be a major attraction.”
Fury is believed to be keen to fight in Australia and he would win 10 million pounds sterling (20 million Australian dollars) from the event.
The Manchester-born murderer made more than US $ 40 million for his superb loss to Deontay Wilder in the seventh round stoppage last month.
“He would love to come; we like to fight in different places, ”added Arum to the Sun-Herald.
Opetaia admitted that it would be a dream come true for him to fight Fury and urged the organizers to make it happen.
“I am a child from the central coast – things like this show show that hard work pays off,” he said.
“He’s the best heavyweight of our time right now. I am a big fan.
“Once we win the world title in the lightweight division, this will place me as the first mandatory [opponent] for who [heavyweight] champion is there. If it turns out to be him, let’s do it. “
