AMES, Iowa — Indiana Pacers point guard and former Cyclone Tyrese Haliburton only spent two years in Ames, but he left an impact at Iowa State.
Hundreds of kids showed up to the first Tyrese Haliburton Camp at Zachary Jensen Fieldhouse on Sunday.
Haliburton never attended a camp when he was younger with a player of his current caliber, which inspired him to give that gift to other kids.
“I always wanted to do it, because I never had the chance to go to one of those camps,” he said.
Haliburton is grateful for every step of his journey.
“You don’t want to forget where you’re from, whether it’s my hometown, whether it’s, you know, where I play in the NBA or where I went to college,” said Haliburton. “So I’m trying to come back any way I can. [I’m] so excited to be here.
Haliburton was named an NBA All-Star last season and signed a five-year, $260 million contract with the Pacers this summer, the largest contract in franchise history.
Looking ahead, Haliburton says he is determined to win. The Pacers season begins October 25 against Washington.
