Morbius star Tyrese Gibson claimed the Spider-Man spinoff was part of the MCU, but Sony responded by denying any connection.
Morbius‘ his own Tyrese Gibson recently released some major proclamations regarding the upcoming film. During his interview, he was blatantly asked if Sony‘s Morbius is part of the MCU. Gibson responded with a confident yes. He was then asked to confirm further, to clarify that Morbius is part of the Avengers world – to which he answered categorically, yes, again.
Gibson seemed very sure of his claims about Morbius‘ world integrating somewhere in the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe, which he performed in an interview with ComicBook.com. However, the film’s distributor, Sony, publicly denied that Morbius was at all a gaming factor in the MCU. However, there is no doubt whether or not the film is inspired by the MCU. The official The film’s synopsis reads: “Biochemist Michael Morbius is trying to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but when his experience goes awry, he inadvertently becomes infected with some form of vampirism instead.”
The character of Morbius was taken from the original wonder comics, which may have been many fans’ first introduction to him. The story and essence of the character of Morbius came from Sony announcing that they were going to produce a franchise of Spider Man-inspired cinema. The very first trailer that dropped for Morbius featuring graffiti stating that Spider Man was a murderer. It could be a potential nod towards the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home when Peter Parker is charged with murder, which suggests that Marvel Studios ‘MCU and Sony Pictures’ Marvel Character Universe are somehow related, despite the latter company’s denial.
the Spider Man franchise has been rumored to plunge its lens indefinitely into the vast multiverse. This makes Sonyis “no” definitive as to whether Morbius is part of the somewhat confusing MCU – especially since the close ties between Sony hero-themed project is somewhat inevitable. To further confuse and entangle the situation, Gibson also mentioned that the film was set to debut in October, which Sony also denied. This may be due to poor communication or a lack of information on how the two Sony and wonder overlap and to what extent.
Still, the lack of coordination and coexistence is a bit odd considering it seems both parties are right in one way or another. The release date initially attached to the film has in fact been pushed back. On the other hand, it wasn’t in a few months, as Gibson had stated.
Everything Marel Studios and Sony have in store for their respective cinematic universes remains to be seen, but fans may have more answers once. Spider-Man: No Path Home released in theaters. The president of Sony Pictures Entertainment recently suggested that there was a plan to connect the Spider Man Marvel and Sony franchises that would be clear after audiences saw No way home.
Morbius will now be released on January 28, 2022.
