Two parents and their two children were shot dead as police say they are not treating the case as a murder-suicide.
Three dogs were also found shot dead in the house in Romeoville, a village about 26 miles from Chicago in the US state of Illinois, shortly after 8:43 p.m. local time on Sunday (2:43 a.m. UK time). United, Monday).
Police found the bodies Sunday evening after a family member asked police for a “wellness check” because one of the deceased had not shown up for work that day.
Romeoville Police Department Deputy Chief Chris Burne said, “We do not believe the offender is currently one of the victims.
“It’s not a murder-suicide.”
The parents were identified as Alberto Rolon and Zoralda Bartolomei, the deputy chief said.
He said it was unclear if they were married, but they were the parents of the two child victims.
The children have not been identified and Mr Burne refused to reveal their ages or gender.
He added that the ongoing investigation was “sensitive” in nature.

Mr Burne said the motive was unclear, but he did not believe the public was at risk.
He added that there was no active police search for the alleged attackers near the house.
