Former President Trump tore up the Supreme Court on Wednesday after rejecting his emergency appeal seeking to shield his tax returns from House Democrats.
Tuesday’s court order caps a multi-year legal battle, clearing the way for the House Ways and Means Committee to receive the former president’s tax returns.

Trump bucked the tradition of publicly sharing his tax returns during his 2016 presidential campaign, citing an audit, although IRS regulations do not prevent someone from releasing their returns during the audit.

House Democrats have sought the records arguing they need to probe how the IRS conducts its routine presidential audits. Trump’s lawyers pushed back against the request as a purely partisan effort.
