Trevor Siemian threw only six assists for the New York Jets in 2019 before suffering a rather horrible ankle injury at the end of the season that found him on an injured reserve. Although last year did not go as planned, the quarterback received an impeccable health check-up this week from specialist Dr. David Porter, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL network.
The news comes nearly six months after Siemian was hit hard by the Browns’ defensive end, Myles Garrett, and was struck down, landing awkwardly on that ankle. A MRI performed after this confirmed injury he would be absent the rest of the year. Before that, Siemian, who started in place of Sam Darnold when the JB QB franchise took care of mono, only made three of his six assists for three yards. Now that he’s back to full strength, Siemian, 28, can head to a free agency looking for a spot on the NFL list as a veteran replacement.
He first entered the league as the Denver Broncos’ seventh round pick in 2015, spent three seasons there and played 26 games (24 starts). In Denver, Siemian had a 13-11 starter record and completed 59.3% of his passes for 5,686 yards, 30 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. Before signing with New York last season, Siemian spent the 2018 campaign supporting Kirk Cousins in Minnesota.
Sure, there will certainly be some top shifts hitting the free agent market this off-season looking for new jobs, but Siemian presents a solid option for teams looking for a replacement with starting experience in the league.
