Motorhomes come in different shapes and sizes. We’ve seen huge ones that almost look like full-size houses on wheels, while tiny ones have also popped up to prove to us that a nomadic lifestyle doesn’t always justify a huge vehicle. However, a person’s lifestyle will always affect the size and capabilities of their rides.
For Juliana, living full-time on the road in her 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser Overlander SUV fits her lifestyle perfectly. Featured on Tiny House Giant JourneyJuliana works as a trail guide for Onyx Off-Road, a job that supports her chosen van life.
Juliana shared that living on the road can sometimes be difficult. However, she finds it liberating and her desire to explore scenic and rugged parts of the United States needed a high-performance all-terrain vehicle, hence her choice of vehicle.
Juliana affectionately calls her FJ Cruiser motorhome “Wreck”, short for “Recycle”, because everything on the vehicle is either recycled, scrapped or discounted. She has made many changes to her Toyota SUV, including the addition of a bison geared roof rack, solar panels, and zippered headlights and lights. The roof rack is still being assembled, but Juliana has storage boxes on it, which she uses to store her things. The solar panels on the roof of his vehicle provide him with 200 watts of power.
Living on the road can be difficult, admits Juliana, especially when you don’t have access to amenities like a bathroom or running water. However, she chooses to live hand to mouth and go with the flow, not caring about what the future holds. She loves the feeling of freedom and life that this lifestyle provides.
Juliana’s FJ Cruiser Overland Tiny Home may not be the most luxurious or spacious, but it lets her live out her dream of exploring the great outdoors and living life on the road. She encourages others to consider alternative lifestyles and find what makes them feel alive.
