Tottenham gave north London rivals Arsenal a title advantage by beating Manchester City on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s side never scored at Spurs’ new ground and that unwanted record was extended as they were beaten 1-0 in the capital.

Kane became Tottenham’s all-time top scorer in the first half

Arsenal squandered the chance to go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League on Saturday as they lost 1-0 to strugglers Everton.

But runners-up Man City couldn’t capitalize on the slippage of their title rivals as they lost by the same scoreline to Spurs, who consequently gave their bitter foes a helping hand in their dreams of winning the league for the first time. since 2004.

Tottenham – who were without boss Antonio Conte – faced a rotating Man City XI, with Guardiola benching key player Kevin de Bruyne.

Before the game, Spurs striker Harry Kane knew that just one goal would be enough to make him Tottenham’s top scorer.

And it ended up taking him just 15 minutes to do just that.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg picked it out and Kane then found space in the box before shooting into the bottom left corner of Ederson’s net.

Man City failed to convert their chances

Man City nearly equalized before the break as Riyad Mahrez’s shot hit the underside of the crossbar, keeping Spurs ahead.

“Manchester City were the dominant team – 66 per cent possession and plenty of shooting,” said talkSPORT commentator for the game Nigel Adderley.

“But they huffed and huffed and barely found Erling Haaland. Their best chance was in injury time, when Riyad Mahrez’s shot returned to the crossbar with Lloris beaten.

Although the winger had the best chance for the away team in the first 45 minutes, Guardiola took it off for Kevin de Bruyne in the second half, with his side’s first-half performance crying out for the playmaker Belgian game.

With Man City creating more in the second half and De Bruyne seeing an effort go far, Tottenham looked like the most likely side to score.

Kane narrowly missed doubling his side’s lead twice as the home side easily broke the flanks.

But while the Spurs striker shone, the Man City striker could not gain a foothold in the game.

This was despite the north London side dropping to ten men thanks to a second yellow card for Cristian Romero after bringing down an advancing Jack Grealish.

However, Hugo Lloris had to make a final save and kick the ball wide of his goal, hitting Rodri accordingly as he helped his side to within a point of fourth place Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Man City remain five points behind Arsenal.
