TotalEnergies SE said it spotted an aerial drone near an oilfield in the Danish North Sea, heightening concerns about an energy conflict in Europe.
Unusual drone activity was seen near its Halfdan B oil and gas field on September 28, the French company announced by email on Thursday. The incident was first reported by Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.
TotalEnergies has increased “vigilance around the security of all our offshore assets and onshore sites,” the company said.

Leaks discovered earlier this week on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea are widely believed to be the result of sabotage, leading to increased security of energy infrastructure across Europe. Several governments have said the damage was “deliberate”, with Finland noting that only a state actor could commit acts of such magnitude.
“I just hope that there is no idea behind this to extend the war beyond the border of Ukraine to the North Sea,” said Patrick Pouyanne, chief executive of Total, to Bloomberg in an interview this week.
The Halfdan B field is located approximately 210 kilometers (130 miles) west of the Danish coast. Denmark has tightened security measures around energy installations since the Nord Stream gas pipeline leaks, which occurred near the island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea.
