Star puts parents in their place in California
Leonardo DiCaprio has come a long way, going from “Romper Room” and “Friends” to Hollywood A-lister and, at the same time, acquiring a real estate portfolio that could make Ellen DeGeneres envious. Part of his collection: an LA home he bought in the 1990s from Madonna, a mid-century modern beauty in Palm Springs that was built for Dinah Shore he bought in 2014, and a manse $ 23 million Malibu he collected in 2017.
Mr. DiCaprio recently bought the Los Feliz home from “Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson for $ 7.1 million and gave it to his mother. A few years ago he paid $ 4.9 million for another Los Feliz house for his father.
While some stars have pulled their real estate investments out of California due to high taxes, Mr. DiCaprio has most of his properties in the Golden State, with the exception of an apartment in New York and an island in Belize. . He still lives at his two-compound property on the Sunset Strip, just a 30-minute drive from his parents in Los Feliz.
The 1928 Spanish colonial-style house he bought for his mother was owned by Gwen Stefani before Mr. Ferguson. It has nearly 5,000 square feet with lots of character and charming outdoor spaces. There are four bedrooms and six bathrooms, a kitchen-diner with all the bells and whistles, and formal living and dining rooms with high ceilings and romantic Juliet balconies overlooking each. There are arched doorways, tiled roof and floors, stained glass windows, multiple fireplaces, sleek bathrooms, expansive staircases, an intricately carved front door, and inlaid ceilings.
Almost all of the bedrooms open out onto landscaped terraces, colorful gardens, courtyards, fountains and views of Griffith Observatory. There is also a separate bathroom by the pool and spa and an independent meditation / yoga room.
Brett Lawyer of Hilton and Hyland represented Mr. DiCaprio in the purchase; the list was owned by Jennifer Akbari of Compass, Beverly Hills. |
