Nearly 30 years after their Oscar-winning collaboration on “Forrest Gump,” Tom Hanks, Robert Zemeckis and Eric Roth will reunite for a new film.
The trio are set to adapt the groundbreaking graphic novel, “Here,” with Hanks attached to star, Zemeckis to direct and Roth to write the script. Published in 2014 by illustrator and comics innovator Richard McGuire, “Here” centers on a room and chronicles events that have occurred in that space over hundreds of thousands of years.
This new project marks the first time the three will reunite since their talents magically fused together in the 1994 classic “Forrest Gump.” The drama won six Oscars, with Hanks (Best Actor), Zemeckis (Best Director) and Roth (Best Adapted Screenplay) each taking home a statuette, in addition to Best Picture from the film.
In the years that followed, Hanks worked with Zemeckis and Roth separately. Hanks and Zemeckis teamed up for “Cast Away” in 2000, “The Polar Express” in 2004, and the upcoming live-action adaptation of Disney’s “Pinocchio”; Zemeckis was also executive producer of Apple’s original 2021 film “Finch.” Roth (another Oscar nominee this year for “Dune”) wrote the screenplay for 2011’s “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close,” which Hanks starred in.
The film will be produced by Playtone and ImageMovers, with the package auction brokered by CAA (which represents Hanks, Roth and Playtone) and WME (which represents Zemeckis and ImageMovers).
News of the projects in development comes hours after Hanks-starring comedy “A Man Called Otto” set a high benchmark with a $60 million acquisition by Sony Pictures (the biggest deal to date on the market). Virtual European Film). Hanks also made headlines earlier Thursday with the release of the trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis,” which features the two-time Oscar winner.
Deadline was the first to report news from the movie package.
