Tom Brady will take a year off between the NFL and the broadcast booth.
Brady, who announced his retirement for the second time last week, appeared on FS1’s “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd on Monday, and revealed he will be waiting to enter Fox Sports’ NFL broadcast booth until in the fall of 2024 after agreeing to a 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox last year.
“Decompression is really important,” Brady said, when asked if he would take some time off to relax between now and his future projects. “You’ve been on this really crazy, hamster wheel treadmill for a long time, loving the moment and the journey. At the same time, it’s a daily struggle.
“I appreciate so many people who are committed every day to showing up, putting their maximum effort into their lives and careers. For me, I want to be great at what I do – talking, even last week , with the folks at Fox Sports and the executives there, allowing me to start my Fox opportunity in 2024, something that’s been great for me.
“So take the time to really learn, to get great at what I want to do, to get great at thinking about the opportunity, and to make sure that I’m not rushing into anything. When people have really bet on me, whether it was when I got drafted by the Patriots or signed in free agency with the Bucs, I wanted to be fully committed and I never wanted to disappoint people. I think my biggest motivation was that. So even in the future I want to be great at what I do, and that always takes time, strategizing, learning, growing and developing. evolution, and I have so many people I can rely on who can also support me in this growth.. This will be a great opportunity for me to take some time and really become [great] to my broadcast work on Fox, which I’m really looking forward to doing, but also catching up with other aspects of my life that require time and energy.
That means Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen, who will call the 2023 Super Bowl between the Chiefs and Eagles for Fox on Sunday, will be back as the top team next season.

Brady, 45, retired last Wednesday via a beach selfie video after a 23-year NFL career and seven Super Bowl championships. This past season has been tumultuous. As the Bucs won the NFC South, they went 8-9, Brady’s first losing season as a starter, and were beaten easily in the first round of the home playoffs by the Cowboys.
Brady also went through a divorce from model Gisele Bündchen, which ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington called “traumatic” after 13 years of marriage. Brady and Bündchen share a son and daughter together, and Brady also has another son from a previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan.
