One of the biggest contenders to play in the NFL, Tom Brady is known to be hyper-focused on football throughout every season. On a recent episode of his “Let’s Go” podcast, Brady compared football season to being deployed as a member of the military.

Brady was speaking with Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant about the lack of work-life balance during the season. Brady likened his experience to a military deployment, as he has to cut most other aspects of life for months in order to focus on the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl.

“I almost look at the football season like you’re going on deployment,” Brady said. “It’s like, ‘Man, here we go again.’ There’s only one way to do it.”

Brady acknowledged that there is a natural tendency to want to spend more time away from the game during the season, but his competitive nature won’t let him do that. He still finds himself obsessed with how he and his team can win another championship.

“Whatever you might say, like, ‘Oh man, I want to spend a little more time doing this during the season,’ the reality is that your competitiveness takes over,” Brady said. “Even if you want to have that playful balance with the [work-life] balance, you’re going to end up doing exactly what you’ve always done, that’s why you are who you are. You’re going to say, ‘How can I do this?'”

For now, Brady and the Buccaneers are focused on finding their rhythm. After a disappointing loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bucs are 3-3, but they sit atop the NFC South standings.

After a career year in 2021, Brady got off to a slow start this fall. In six games, Brady completed 67.2% of his passes for 1,652 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception.
