Today host Karl Stefanovic makes a cheeky joke that Queenslanders are thrilled with the potential legalization of marijuana
Today Show host Karl Stefanovic raised eyebrows on Monday after making a cheeky on-air joke that Queenslanders were thrilled with the potential legalization of marijuana.
Karl, 48, and backup co-anchor Sarah Abo, 35, were presenting the weather report when they started talking about sunny skies in the state.
Sarah remarked that the Gold Coast looked “perfect”, prompting Karl to joke. The Queenslanders had another reason to be happy.

“He got excited about the potential legalization of marijuana there, didn’t he?” he joked.
Karl also remarked that it was “Bob Marley Monday” as a track from the legendary cannabis-smoking reggae star played in the background.
His cheeky jibe follows Greens Senator David Shoebridge recently announcing the Progressive Party’s drive to legalize marijuana in a controversial bill to be released for public comment later this year.

Colleagues on the Today show have a reputation for joking around on the air.
Last week, Sarah roasted Karl for her fast food diet.
The pair were interviewing buff-looking AFL star Steve ‘Stevie J’ Johnson when Karl marveled at his appearance.

After the segment ended, Karl remarked to Sarah that Stevie “is as fit as can be, he’s a fitness machine”.
Sarah said AFL players had buff bodies because ‘they don’t eat Macca at 2am in London’ and then gave Karl a pointed look.
An embarrassed-looking Karl replied, “I told you not to tell anyone!”
The 60 Minutes reporter then apologized to her co-host and the two shared a laugh.
Sarah previously teased Karl about his age in July by asking him if he was the same age as Tom Cruise, ten years older.
