Tottenham were dealt a blow to Timo Werner just half an hour into their north London derby against Arsenal.

The German, on loan from RB Leipzig, started his attack for the clash but had to be taken off early.

Werner appeared to have a muscle problem and had to make way, with Brennan Johnson replacing him.

It was the 28-year-old’s tenth Premier League start for the club, with Ange Postecoglou confident of his quality.

But it now remains to be seen whether he will be without Werner in the final weeks of the season due to his injury.

That summed up a torrid first half for Spurs who stayed behind after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg headed towards his side from a corner.

The hosts thought they had equalized through Micky van de Ven, but the defender was ruled offside and the goal was ruled out.

Bukayo Saka doubled Arsenal’s lead before Kai Havertz added the third as half-time approached.

Spurs dominated the first half in terms of possession, but it was the Gunners who took their chances to take the lead.

Saka and Havertz did not hesitate to gloat over their success in front of the home fans, with the former cutting off his ears and the latter offering a shush gesture.

Cristian Romero pulled one back for Spurs just after the hour when he capitalized on David Raya’s poor pass.

They then reduced the gap to a single goal thanks to Heung-min Son who scored a penalty following Declan Rice’s foul on Ben Davies.
