Rio Ferdinand has joked that he discussed the Manchester United job with Thomas Tuchel at the Bernabeu.

The Bayern Munich boss was in good spirits as he popped into TNT Sport’s live coverage ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid.

Tuchel, who will leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season, has been linked with replacing Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman is under huge pressure as the Red Devils sit eighth in the Premier League table, with Tuchel considered to be on the club’s shortlist if Ten Hag is sacked.

And talkSPORT also understands the former Chelsea manager would like to return to England to take over at the Theater of Dreams.

It appears United legend Ferdinand was doing his best to gauge whether the speculation was true, as the pair were in conversation before kick-off in Spain.

Ferdinand was seen with his hand around the German’s face, who in turn laughed while covering his mouth.

Host Laura Woods and former Real Madrid star Steve McManaman, who won two Champions League titles with Los Blancos, were keen to ask what they were talking about.

After Ferdinand insisted he was blown away by the 50-year-old’s “relaxed” attitude before the clash, McManaman joked: “What about the job at Manchester United?”

To which a smiling Ferdinand replied: “That was the last part of the interview! Where are you going?”

Ferdinand joked that the pair had discussed the potentially soon-to-be vacant position at United.

Tuchel has made no secret of his love for the Premier League, having won the Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup with the Blues.

Discussing his future with TNT Sports, he said: “It’s no secret that I loved Chelsea.

“I loved it in England and I loved it in the Premier League, that’s for sure.

“It was a very, very special moment and I remember it very well.”
