This viral TikTok "stranger things" Halloween display features a levitating Max

“Stranger Things” has inspired Halloween since its premiere in 2016. Now, a Chicago-area couple are using a storyline from season four to elevate their lawn for the weird holiday. “[I]Looks weird here,” Aubrey and Dave, the couple behind the @horrorprops account, wrote in a caption for a post teasing their elaborate setup, which has since gone viral on TikTok.

The couple’s outdoor setting has many elements from the Upside Down, including various color-changing spiers, a throne for the villainous Vecna, and a replica of the show’s eerie grandfather clock. Most impressive, however, is a vivid recreation of the scene where Max is possessed by Vecna, causing her to levitate as “Running Up That Hill” plays in the background.

The secret of the optical illusion has yet to be shared, but it has been theorized that fishing line was involved. In a comment, Aubrey and Dave said they would share the full tutorial once the lawn display is fully setup in early October. As of September 29, the initial TikTok revealing the Max display had over 14 million views. Comments poured in from various big accounts, including Netflix, which wrote, “fan #001 for sure.”

Watch videos of Aubrey and Dave’s growing exposure ahead, and stay tuned for the couple’s big reveal detailing how they achieved the Max Illusion.
