Ally McCoist believes Kai Havertz’s Man of the Match trophy is ‘going straight in the trash’ after seeing a photo of the wretched German striker.
Havertz gave his best in his country’s 4-2 win over Costa Rica with a brace that meant all they needed was a Spain equalizer against Japan.
It didn’t come, however, meaning Havertz’s efforts were in vain as Germany were knocked out – but they still didn’t go unnoticed.
The Chelsea striker deservedly earned the Man of the Match award for his two goals, but unsurprisingly he wasn’t too happy to have to pose with his award.
In an image that quickly went viral, Havertz was pictured with the utterly miserable award, and talkSPORT’s McCoist could only laugh.
“He’s standing there with the trophy and you’ve never seen a more unfortunate man of the match,” he said. “I tell you he does everything but cry.
“I’m willing to bet a pound at any odds that the trophy is not in Havertz’s cabinet when he returns to London in the near future.
“You want to see this photo, it’s amazing – this trophy is going straight in the trash, maybe this is my magic moment of the tournament.”
Havertz spoke after potentially trashing his trophy and was shocked by his team’s defense.
Not only against Costa Rica, but also the crucial 2-1 loss to Japan that ended their tournament.
“We have to look at each other,” he said. “We had enough chances to win against Japan, enough chances to win against Spain.
“We had the game in our hands today and still conceded two goals against Costa, which shouldn’t really be possible with the quality we have.
“We then reversed play, which was good. But then you see the other result. With such quality, we cannot afford to lose to Japan. The game against Japan made the difference.
