IN In typical Billie Eilish fashion, the Grammy and Oscar winner announced her third full-length album in a social media post complete with all caps and emojis, along with the album art. Title Hit me hard and softthe album will be released on May 17.
“The album does exactly what the title suggests. It hits you hard and soft, both lyrically and sonically, while skirting genres and defying trends along the way. Hit me hard and soft journeys through a vast and expansive audio landscape, immersing listeners in a full spectrum of emotions,” reads the album’s press release.
As is tradition, the album was written by Eilish and her brother and musical collaborator Finneas, who also produced it. According to the announcement, it will be available on all digital platforms and “all physical formats in limited variants on the same day, with the same tracklist and using 100% recyclable materials.”
The last item reflects Eilish’s recent comments about the environmental waste of physical products such as vinyl.
Although Eilish and Finneas have spent the past few months promoting the awards campaign What was I made for?their blockbuster song barbie film and soundtrack, they haven’t released a new album since Happy forever in 2021, although they have toured and released other material.
The announcement comes after Eilish confirmed in February that her new album had been mastered.
