‘The whole stand’: Freddie Ljungberg wowed Rangers fans in Champions League last night – HITC – Soccer, games, movies, TV, music

Freddie Ljungberg was impressed by the Rangers fans at Ibrox during their 7-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Arsenal legend and former Celtic player underlined how “the whole stand jumped” when Scott Arfield opened the scoring against the Reds after just 17 minutes.

Before kick-off, as expected, the atmosphere was quite noisy in Glasgow, the Gersois trying to make the meeting as hostile as possible to their British counterparts.

Much like how Rangers ended their loss to Liverpool at Anfield last week, they started this game aggressively as they tried to force their opponents into making mistakes.

That aggression and direct attitude played a part in Arfield pulling off a brilliant effort from the edge of the box to open the scoring.

That’s when the noise levels inside Ibrox seriously increased, as Ljungberg shared, it was one of the “best things” of the night, as he put it. told CBS Sports Champions League Goals Show (10/12/22).

“What a finish, it’s so well controlled and in the corner,” Ljungberg said. “It’s a very, very good finish. I think one of the best things is that the whole stand was jumping up and down. The camera even moves.

CAN THE RANGERS ADVANCE?

Before a ball was kicked, few would have expected Rangers to a) qualify for the Round of 16 and b) pick up points against Liverpool.

The chasm in class is there to see it all and it would have been a shock had they got points, at Anfield or Ibrox last night.

But there are ways to lose games and the way of defeat, particularly the second-half performance, is something the Rangers faithful are unlikely to enjoy.

The bottom line here is that Giovanni van Bronckhorst cannot allow low morale to filter its way to their weekend Premiership game at Motherwell as they are two points behind Celtic.
