‘It will take our music to new heights’: The Who announce their first UK tour in SIX years… with rock veterans joined by a full orchestra as they visit cities “we’re not there haven’t been in decades”
The Who have announced their first UK tour in nearly six years – and the band will be backed by a full orchestra when they kick off later this year.
The mod icons, who first toured in 1962, will tour the UK from July 6-23 and release tickets for the next round of shows from February 3.
The new gig list includes a return to Edinburgh – 40 years after the last one. performance in the Scottish capital – and a show in Derby, where they last performed in 1966.

Hull, Edinburgh, London, Derby, Badminton, Durham, St Helens and Brighton will also host the band, who will be backed by a full orchestra as they perform their catalog of hits.
Confirming the tour, singer Roger Daltrey said: “Having not toured the UK for six years, it’s great that at this point in our career we get the chance to go places which are not on the usual Edinburgh Castle and Derby tour map plus the other towns in the country we haven’t been to in decades will make this extra special to me.
“This opportunity will give our UK Who fans the chance to hear our current show which, with the addition of an orchestra, takes our music to new heights.”
In addition to a full orchestra, rock veterans will be joined by special UB40 guests featuring Ali Campbell for a handful of their scheduled shows.
Guitarist Pete Townshend added: “Roger originally christened this tour with an orchestra ‘Moving On!’ I love it. It’s what we both want to do. Move on with the new music classic Who, the music unfolded in new and exciting ways.
‘Taking risks has nothing to lose. I can’t wait to bring this show to the UK.
The set will tackle every milestone of their 60-year career, including the rock opera Tommy and the music from the riotous 1973 album Quadrophenia, which was later turned into a hit film.
In 2022 the band toured the United States with The Who Hits Back Tour, during which they shared a stage with some of the biggest orchestral bands in the country.
They will release The Who With Orchestra Live At Wembley on March 24.
